Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, met with participants of the 11th intake of the Prime Minister’s Fellowship Programme.

The Minister emphasised the programme’s role in supporting and qualifying national talent and advancing government work in line with the objectives of the comprehensive development process.

Al Mubarak highlighted the ministry’s longstanding role in serving Bahraini society, noting that municipal work dates back to 1919 with the establishment of Manama Municipality. He said the sector is currently witnessing a qualitative transformation based on sustainable urban planning, community partnership, and the adoption of best international practices.

He also highlighted the ministry’s sustainable development initiatives, most notably the National Afforestation Plan, which aims to double the number of trees to 3.6 million by 2035 and quadruple mangrove trees across the Kingdom.

The minister further highlighted major projects being implemented by the ministry, digital transformation efforts, and the adoption of advanced technologies to deliver services in line with the highest quality standards.

The participants toured the Manama Municipality building, where they were briefed on recent development and modernisation works and visited the municipality’s museum documenting its institutional history and stages of growth.
